Parks' songwriting is so versatile she has had to distinguish her funny material from her folk rock and Celtic /trad-influenced song writing. Thus, she has released her CD Duhmocracy under her pseudonym, Victrola & the Duhst Bunnies. Her lyrics and melodies have been universally praised as brilliant, mature and genuinely hilarious. Her writing comes from her own life experience, but often she draws on that of others to craft her songs. Tall tales woven from complete fiction are also fair game as Victoria's song fodder. Her voice can be anything she wants it to be: cabaret, operatic, satirical, folky—as the body of her work crosses many genres. She uses many vocal stylings that are dictated by the songs she writes. Some have called her expression uncanny. While her voice is very good and she is an excellent singer, one has to agree, her vocals are theatrical. You cannot help but laugh when she is funny and cry when she is serious. Years as a pro-democracy activist have lent her lyrics authority as she claims to write her political satire from a broad base of information and knowledge she has accumulated as a self-described "news junkie." While the lyrics may be verbally sparing, the message is strong and complete. She can take a very complicated issue and boil it down for the listener to understand in simple terms. She frames her issues like she writes her songs—succinctly. Some call her songwriting pure genius. Others just laugh their way through the songs without having to think too hard about the content. Her lyric writing makes heavy use of irony and double-entendre, unique rhyming patterns and alliteration. Victoria's songwriting is delightful and inspiring. Some of her stories are just plain wacky. As a producer she takes pride in the quality of her productions. She obviously surrounds herself with extremely talented artists and arrangers as her productions have consistently earned critical praise for their high production values. Lovers of great songwriting will just delight in any one of her CDs. She warns though, that the songs on Duhmocracy may make the heads of the blissfully unaware and the willfully ignorant, explode. Everyone else will laugh hysterically!
